The U12 Boys Burke United, coached by Larry Park and managed by Dan Lemieux, recently traveled to Charleston, West Virginia as Virginia's representative for the US Youth Soccer Eastern Region President's Cup. The United earned this honor by winning the Virginia President's Cup last Fall. Coming off their recent 1st place finish in NCSL Division 1, the United were feeling confident with their chances for success in West Virginia. In the preliminary games, the United tied a team from Pennsylvania West 0-0 in their first game, defeated a team from Pennsylvania East 4-0 and defeated a team from Maryland 3-0 to earn their spot in the semifinals. In the semifinals, the United defeated New Jersey team 2-1, conceding their only goal of the tournament in the last minute of the game. Facing another team from Pennsylvania East in the final, the United controlled possession for most of the game and shut down the top goal scoring team from the tournament with a 1-0 victory, earning the United the President's Cup championship. Aside from the great goaltending and rock-solid defense, the team displayed consistency across the lineup with goal scoring coming from 6 different players. Players, parents and coaches will certainly remember the great experiences both on the pitch and off and appreciate the support from friends and family, BAC, NCSL and VYSA.
